That's a common belief but certainly not one that's not mcsweeney's universal to Christianity. mcsweeney's The arguments you raise are perfectly good reasons to doubt the word-for-word exactness of every single part of the bible, but that doesn't necessarily mean the underlying substance is completely false (that's where the question of faith comes in). And I freely admit I don't behave in keeping with everything said in the Bible. I like and eat shellfish, as do a lot of Christians, including "literal word" evangelicals. |
