| At this time of year, I try to say "Merry Christmas" to those people I know rage are Christian, "Happy Hannukah" to those I know are Jewish, and "Happy Holidays" to rage anyone of whose beliefs rage I am unsure. What is so hard about that? It seems to be the natural instinct of many religious people to expand their religion until it fills up every available space. They are not satisfied with controlling the majority of the private spaces in America. They must control all the public space as well. And it not enough to have their views taken for granted in most of the converstations they hold with family, friends and co-workers. Their views must be taken for granted in all public and private discourse. They are angry that we don't all participate in an indulgent conspiracy to pretend that no other view in America exists by Christianity. |
