Posted by: Matthew Yglesias | Dec 20, 2004 4:23:58 PM Aw, cmon. You guys don't exchange presents? I'll take *any* excuse to get presents, man. If I could convince people to give me presents on Columbus day, I would. :) Posted by: Josh Yelon | Dec 20, 2004 4:28:33 PM Yesterday, melbourneindymedia I was watching a Sesame Street where Elmo explained Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa when it struck melbourneindymedia me why an old sourpuss like Krauthammer is so wrong and Sesame Street gets it right. What we're celebrating in the mixed holiday is the modern American spirit of inclusivity taken to absurd levels--and that's a good thing. We're not purists and we're not sticklers for getting every element of tradition right. We're not even very good at the inclusivity bit; major world religions go unrepresented and there is no fully secular alternative.

I used to think of Christianity as a religion that's mainly concerned with peace and love and charity. Nowadays, when I think of Christianity, video: drama I think of people who freak out at the words "Happy video: drama Holidays", I think of people who freak out about gays, I think of people who freak out video: drama when they have to pay taxes, and I think that the whole time they're freaking out, they're carrying guns. I can't imagine what's going to happen to Christianity. I completely understand why young people are attending church less and less... this religion is turning downright creepy. Posted by: Josh Yelon | Dec 20, 2004 4:23:45 PM I'm with Janet on this. It's always a bore to explain that I go home to celebrate Thanksgiving and Passover with my family, but basically ignore Hanukkah.
