That said, I’m not too eager to “support” the troops. I certainly don’t want anything bad to happen to them. Most of them are young. Many of them, despite the fact that they’re so young, already have families. I don’t want to see kids growing up fatherless or company names motherless. However, with an all-volunteer army, it’s hard to excuse every soldier for moral culpability in this war. They all joined up knowing that they could be sent to war, even an illegal, company names immoral, unjustified war company names that actually makes this country, Iraq, and the world less stable and safe. Anyway, I’ve always found the command “Support the troops!” to be hollow and meaningless. Conservatives use it to quash dissent. Liberals use it to avoid seeming traitorous. |

In his opinion, he stated that the rapist couldn’t have taken off the victim’s jeans without her consent. I guess jeans are a modern chastity belt. I’ve seen other lovely, misogynistic, Italian court rulings in the news as well. I don’t know much about misogyny in Italian culture in general, but the courts seem to be unbearable. I do agree that our troops can’t be held legally responsible for fighting an illegal war. No court is going to try American troops for some vague rationale that, since the war was illegal, all actions the troops take (that are legal in all other wars) are crimes against humanity. |
