Neither do I. The biblical account of Jesus' life and teachings could be true in some general sense without being true naughty games in every naughty games detail. It could naughty games establish broad moral principles without dictating detailed moral behavior. But if you're going to take that position, it weakens your claim that others are misinterpreting or misrepresenting the Bible. And it doesn't change the fact that teachings that liberal Christians are uncomfortable with and tend to ignore or downplay, such as the doctrine of hell, are prominent themes not only in Jesus own statements, but in the Bible more generally. That's a common belief but certainly not one that's not universal to Christianity. |
