I didn't mean that you disagreed with me about whether or not it mattered if Jesus was who christ he said he was or the gospels were true. I meant that I know you disagree with me about the answers to both questions--you think they're not true and I do.* That's why I was christ arguing that, FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CONVERSATION(about the importance of behavior in Christianity) it didn't matter whether or not they were true. *I don't think, though, that believing Christ is who the gospels say he christ said he was, or that the gospels are "true" has to be the same thing as saying they, or any other part of the bible is a word-for-word exact statement of exactly what happened and mandate for every aspect of how to live your life. That's a common belief but certainly not one that's not universal to Christianity. The arguments you raise are perfectly good reasons to doubt the word-for-word exactness of every single part of the bible, but that doesn't necessarily mean the underlying substance is completely false (that's where the question of faith comes in).
