The paradox of faith as I experience it is that I can drunk lesbian teen believe something to be drunk lesbian teen completely true and also be fully aware that others experience their faiths with similar intensity that I can respect even as I remain convinced of what I believe. I know that this is not rational in the sense you're asking me about. And the odd consequence of a current religious debate that's much more concerned with behavior than theological issues that were the cause of the most violent dissention and schisms in the past (though earthly power has always played a role, too), is that groups that historically judaism were dramatically opposed to one another based on theological principles (for judaism example, conservative catholics and evangelicals) are now making common cause judaism based on shared beliefs about behavior. I agree with you that both liberal and conservative Christians pick and choose pieces of the faith.
