But here’s the thing — a (substantial) majority of Argentine voters still think abortion should be illegal, including women who have had abortions. I was at a party the other day, talking to a girl about my age (late 20s) who was obviously well-off, well-educated, etc. I asked her what girls did when they got pregnant and didn’t want to be. “They have an abortion,” she said, totally nonchalant. “But isn’t it dangerous?” I asked. She said to me, “they claim that people die from it, but it’s not true. no one really dies.”
