I had a sort-of similar situation in that I had a friend who stopped speaking marketing to me and then promptly started speaking to everyone else...about what a bad person I was and how they shouldn't be friends with me anymore and how greivously I had hurt her, blar dee blar, etc. I adopted the policy of "tell if asked"...if those friends wanted to know what happened I would try to give them a simple and unemotional explanation. But under no circumstances would I take a verbal hit out on my ex-friend. Not because I am a better person...I am not...but because it would make me look good and make her look stupid. I don't know that this makes me a "winner" so to speak but it made me more comfortable and shut the door on a lot of emotional garbage.
