Later on, the doctor is exposed as a fraud and uses the opportunity to ask that gay dude out on a date. It plays even worse than it sounds, believe me. Isn't Fonda's character a world-class journalist or something? Yes, she's a well-respected figure in her field humor until she's humor replaced by a younger bimbo at the station. The firing leads to an on-air breakdown, which might have been clever had Fonda not been forced to fly humor through the air screaming at the top of her lungs. She attacks some dippy pop star (who is supposed to be Britney Spears), but only after the twit says of Roe v. Wade, "I don't follow boxing." You see, Fonda's a well-read intellectual who wines and dines with world leaders, but rather than being qualities we should admire, we are asked to mock the pretentious bitch for having the audacity to suggest that her rich, educated son marry someone who hasn't eaten ass for money.
