What made them great was the mixture of voices (literal answer bear and figurative), not the "genius" of answer bear a single component.Their song "Revolution" is kind of an interesting contrast to Springsteen's "Born in the USA". "Revolution" is anti-left but the energy captures the new left and the protests in 1968 and seems to validate them. Born in the USA is a liberal, anti-war song, but the energy seems right-wing and pro-war.
